Jersey Shore Tech & Design’s Lightning Talks (#206) brought together technologists, founders, marketers, and creatives at a recent event focused on practical uses of artificial intelligence. Hosted at the Center for Entrepreneurship at Monmouth University, the well-attended gathering featured five community speakers and a special guest, continuing the organization’s mission to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region’s tech and design communities.
Heidi Thompson, CEO of ACE Public Relations, was among the featured speakers who presented “Kickstarting PR and Marketing with AI.” Thompson outlined how AI is being integrated into modern communications workflows, drawing on real-world examples from ACEPR’s client work. Her presentation highlighted the use of AI to support press releases, market reports, case studies, testimonials, website content, and email campaigns, while maintaining strategic oversight and brand consistency.
Thompson emphasized that AI should be viewed as a support tool rather than a replacement for communications professionals. She described AI as a “junior partner” that can assist with early drafts and ideation, allowing professionals to focus on refinement, messaging, and strategy. Audience members engaged with questions throughout the session, extending the discussion beyond the formal presentation.
The event featured a wide range of perspectives on AI in practice. Additional talks included a live demonstration of an AI-powered talking stuffed animal built with Raspberry Pi, an overview of privacy-first AI development using Apple’s MLX framework, and discussions on trust, transparency, and responsibility in the use of AI tools. Presenters also examined how AI is influencing search engine optimization and shared personal and professional use cases for streamlining everyday tasks.

Jersey Shore Tech & Design’s Lightning Talks series is designed to showcase concise, experience-based presentations that encourage dialogue and peer learning. The recent event underscored the growing interest in applied AI across industries, particularly as professionals seek practical guidance amid rapid technological change.
The event was hosted in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship at Monmouth University, with additional support from Alison Gilbert and participation from Monmouth University computer science students, who invited attendees to future AI workshops. ACE Public Relations noted its appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the conversation and expressed interest in participating in future community events.
